Our January breakfast meeting program featured
Dan Weedin of Toro Consulting, Master Mentor, who was trained by Alan Weiss of Summit Consulting. Dan shared several insights into growing your management consulting business, including
- have a value proposition of 10 words or less, stating how your clients can expect to benefit from working with you
- use value-based fees and always present 3 options
- Be Confident!
- understand people; use knowledge of decision styles (e.g., driver, analytic, expressive and amiable) to build trust with your client
- realize "This is the Marketing Business" -- devote 40% of your time to marketing, including speaking, self-publishing, writing, press releases, pro bono work, netowrking, websites and podcasts, social media, etc.
One of Dan's fun suggestions was to find a colleague who can hold you accountable to your goals -- and check in with that colleague regularly (once a week or once a month) to report on your progress. That will move you forward immensely!
Don't forget -- every month the 3rd Friday is the Mercer Island Roundtable event at the Mercer Island Community Center. A perfect opportunity to network and learn new tips for success!
