McLaughlin is the publisher of two newsletters, The Guerrilla Consultant and Management Consulting News, which offer resources for professional service providers and firm owners. His blog, Beating Feast or Famine, provides readers with timely advice on building sustainable careers, while still having a life.

He was formerly a Principal with Deloitte Consulting, where he spent more than two decades managing consulting projects, developing long-term client relationships, and building profitable consulting practices.
