Creating wealth from your consulting practice – 10
disciplines for working smarter, not longer or harder
A colleague told me this year that he had read a recent
study that revealed that most solo-consultants in the U.S. make between
$50K-60K each year. "Not living in
L.A.!” was my response.
To create any wealth as a consultant, you need a book of
business that begins at 6 figures and doubles and trebles in the first few
years. The same disciplines that create
this growth can maintain this momentum, through economic and market shifts.
In this presentation, we will explore the not-so-often
mentioned disciplines required to step beyond
"making a living” to creating significant disposable income, savings and
retirement funds, by working smarter, not longer or harder.
- Creating your own personal power, authority and
- Finding and closing new clients while you are
- Designing creative value-based fee structures
that drive exceptional revenue.
- Controlling your payment structures (getting
paid in advance).
- Simplifying and shortening your close with clear
and simple deal memos.
- Defining the work you will deliver (and not
deliver) without giving in to "scope creep.”
- Screening your prospects to avoid
high-maintenance (low margin) gigs.
- Knowing when and how to fire a client or reject
- Setting boundaries, and saying no.
your Zen distance.
We’ll share lots of real-life stories of
successes and failures, and have time for discussion..
