How to Close Consulting Deals

With Henry DeVries, Author of
"How to Close a Deal Like Warren Buffett"

If you want to know how to close a deal, nobody does it better than Warren Buffett. Amazingly, Buffett often closes deals by beating out lower-bidding competitors. Henry DeVries, a highly successful dealmaker himself, has studied Buffett’s unique approach for many years and now reveals the secrets of the "Oracle of Omaha" in his latest book, How to Close A Deal Like Warren Buffett: Lessons from the World’s Greatest Dealmaker, published by McGraw-Hill. Have you ever wondered:

  • Where do I fish for big consulting deal prospects?
  • What is the psychology of pricing consulting services?
  • How do I know what’s in the prospect’s wallet?
  • When is the best time to bring up money?
  • Whom should I bring with me to close a deal?
  • When should I forget the ABCs (always be closing)?

To get the answers, join us at our IMC County breakfast meeting on August 8, as Henry DeVries shares some of Buffett’s near-mythic deal-making tips and quips that can help consultants:

  • Go big or go home. "It’s far better to own a portion of the Hope diamond than 100 percent of a rhinestone.”
  • Don’t do deals, just to do deals. "We don’t get paid for activity, just for being right.”
  • Forget the herd, think for yourself. "My idea of a group decision is to look in the mirror.”
  • Remember the top two deal-making rules: "Rule No. 1: Never lose money. Rule No. 2: Never forget rule No. 1.”
All are welcome, not just IMC members. This will not only be a great learning experience, but also an opportunity for you to network with your fellow consultants and other self-employed professionals in the Greater Orange County area. Think about consulting deals that you would like to close..
