Demographics and Behavioral Economics
Do consumers really make rational choices?

Harold's presentation will focus on the implications of behavioral economics and demographics on how the business community typically measures market trends. Current industry practice uses objective questions to measure consumer behavior -- how appealing? what color? how many? etc. But this fails to account for the cognitive processes that underlie choice, and fails to take into account differences among age cohorts and the earnings-spending life-cycles. Incorporating elements from both leads to significant changes in how research is conducted, as well as a richer and more realistic understanding of consumer behavior.

More about our speaker 

Harold Gross
  is Managing Partner at Market Research Answers, a market research practice providing qualitative and quantitative research services to clients across a wide range of B2B and B2C product and service categories.

In his 30-year career as an academic, corporate and consulting researcher Mr. Gross has conducted hundreds of focus groups, in-depth interviews and surveys, and he has also led numerous data mining projects involving millions of records of shopper, B2B and customer satisfaction data.

Prior to Market Research Answers, Dr. Gross held positions at The Dallas Marketing Group, American Airlines and Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business. During his academic career, he published widely in peer-reviewed and professional journals, and taught graduate-level courses in statistics. He has a PhD in economics from the University of Texas at Dallas.
