What is a business model? What does it mean for you? The constantly evolving business environment challenges management consultants to continually advance their skills, tools, perspectives and business models.

A strong and agile business model can reduce risk and give you a competitive edge. A weak model, or no model, stifles growth and effectiveness.

While most management consultants advise clients on how to better manage specific aspects of their business, few have a formal, comprehensive model for their own business. This session will give you the tools and perspectives to build a model that fits your business and makes it stronger.

Mark Haas, Founder and President of Research and Organization Management, will explain the Business Model Canvas tool, one of the most powerful tools adopted by all types of organizations from startups to global corporations. It is a tool every management consultant needs to understand. See a 2-minute video explaining the concept.

Whether your focus is on strategy, operations, culture, finance, coaching, technology or a specific industry, to improve your business you must understand how the canvas works.

We will cover the following points during the session:

   • Summarize the origin, structure and uses of the business model canvas and associated tools
   • Explain the canvas development, evaluation and validation processes you will use
   • Develop a first cut of each of the nine elements of your canvas
   • Share insights about your model that you'd like help with or that might help others
   • Describe references and resources for more powerful models
   • Review how this could be a powerful tool for use in your own consulting practice

You will leave with a draft business model canvas for your own practice and directions to complete it. Registrants will also receive pre-meeting materials with canvas templates, checklists, and references for use in your consulting practice.
