Tales from the Trenches:  Starting Your Own Consulting Practice

Presented by Allison Muller, Pharm D.


Workshop (4:00–5:30 PM):

Maybe you have thought long and hard about starting your own consulting practice. The more work you do for someone else, the more you think: “I can do this on my own”. This 1.5 hour workshop will guide attendees through the crucial steps to starting a consulting practice: essential marketing basics, critical time management skills, navigating client relationship challenges, and leveraging social media.  Come learn the essential pearls soon-to-be consultants need to know to get their consulting practice off the ground.

Dr. Allison Muller is a board-certified Pharm.D toxicologist with over 20 years’ experience in the field of clinical toxicology. She is presently an independent consultant specializing in medical communications and providing litigation support and expert witness testimony in many areas of toxicology and pharmacology. She is also on faculty at The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine teaching toxicology to second-year veterinary medicine students.

Developing and retaining rewarding long-term client relationships is the “holy grail” for consulting firms.  Seasoned consultants know it costs five times more to attract new clients than to keep existing ones and satisfied clients are an excellent source for referrals.  Join us for a thought provoking interactive session where we will discuss securing long term clients, starting from the right place, ensuring quality of service, maintaining active communication and follow up, and delivering continuous value add. 

Mike Ramer, CPC, CSP, is a human capital management consultant with 25+ years experience in the corporate and staffing industries.  Mr. Ramer is principal of his executive search firm, Ramer Search Consultants, a national trainer for the search and recruiting industry, and an employability-economic expert witness for legal cases.   Mr. Ramer is a Certified Personnel Consultant and a Certified Staffing Professional.  He partners with management consultants to build client relationships.
