Who Can Lead Us Out of This? Lessons from Post-conflict Leadership for Cconomic Recovery by John Bryan, DBA, CMC®

Leading after geo-political conflict can teach us something about leadership necessary to help us recover from economic turmoil. On-going studies of leadership and recovery and reconciliation in Africa and elsewhere revealed critical roles, practices, and behaviors for leaders, especially for those who find themselves in positions of leadership, elected and otherwise. What do people expect of leaders? Many of us think we know; some of us are sure we don’t. Either way, a presentation followed by a lively discussion of things we can do, and can help our clients do, is expected.

About John Bryan, DBA, CMC®

John Bryan, DBA, CMC® has been an intentional, full-time management consultant for more than 25 years working in the areas of change and strategic plan development and implementation. More recent focus areas include web-based balanced scorecard implementation and leadership development. John’s clients include large organizations in North and South America, East Asia, and Africa, and startups. A startup may be the most dramatic and traumatic change an organization experiences. 22 of the 25 startups John has helped launch since 1999 are still operational. John’s doctoral dissertation, titled "Regional Transitions from Conflict to Post-Conflict: Observed Leadership Practices,” sparked two concurrent and global studies of leadership to explore leadership in an African context and the similarities between leadership following geopolitical conflict and following economic disruption at the organizational and national level.
