Rountable Discussion on
Using the IMC USA Code of Ethics To Your Advantage
In a group discussion facilitated by Clint Burdett CMC®, we will explore several scenarios and invite you to bring your experiences. How would you respond to ethics issues to your advantage? Every three years, CMCs must earn six points in ethics. This IMC USA SD Chapter discussion counts for two points. But, you don't have to be a CMC® to attend, come on down!
Oh My Golly Molly Brown - Its a Gold Mine
Your practice, thank God, is growing again and you bring in two other consultants to help with a new engagement. Each of you will bring your intellectual property to the table and it will be blended to meet this client’s needs. It is going to be awesome! One of these colleagues developed their concept, which has to be in the package, working for a different client. What process do you follow to comply with the IMC Code of Ethics, which states:
I will respect the rights of consulting colleagues and consulting firms and will not use their proprietary information or methodologies without permission.
Clint's Hidden Agenda: We all blend what we learn from eachother and in this scenario, the result may be marketable as an online product to provide residual income after a consultant retires. How do you use this short statement in the Code in the Code to enhance that opportunity and avoid the risk of litigation.
Can’t Believe They’re Doing That
A respected member of your client’s organization over coffee says: "We have been just over the edge of the regulations for years and getting away with it.” You are not an expert on the regulations or the manufacturing process involved. What process do you follow to comply with the IMC Code of Ethics, which states:
If within the scope of my engagement, I will report to appropriate authorities within or external to the client organization any occurrences of malfeasance, dangerous behavior, or illegal activities.
Clint's Hidden Agenda: How do you mitigate risk in your consulting practice, are you exposed here? How do you best serve your client?
Something Else
We all face ethical issues when consulting. Bring them to the meeting, disguise the client and get other’s opinions on how to use the IMC USA Code of Ethics to guide you through the surprising life events. |
