Even a Duck Can Drown! The Keys to Building Your Resilience in Difficult Times by Maureen Orey, M.Ed, CPLP
 |
You have heard the saying “let it roll off you, like water off a duck’s back”, but did you know that ducks aren’t always water resilient? There are certain key elements a duck needs to develop that water resilience! Come here the story of the duck and what we can learn about building our own resilience. Resilience is the capacity to not only survive life's challenges, but to learn and grow from them, to become stronger as a result of such challenges. While stress, trauma, adversity, and dramatic change are rarely welcome, your personal resilience enables you to find a way to move beyond the challenge and toward a stronger self. This capacity, a key factor in determining how people will respond to change, is something that each of us can grow and strengthen in our lives. Our objectives for the session will be to:
1. Define resilience and its importance in an age of uncertainty 2. Identify the characteristics that enable someone to be resilient 3. Learn how to develop resilience in yourself and support its development in others
We are living in uncertain times, the difficult economic situation, companies cutting their workforce in order to survive, and a governmental bailout like no other! Using the metaphor of a duck’s waterproofing; we will explore the keys to building your personal and professional resilience! The session will focus on the power of resilience and the characteristics that enable someone to be resilient. | |
