As an independent consultant, Andrea Dunathan has been helping nonprofits build their capacity to support effective program expansion since 2004. Building on her prior experience in management, finance, and software development in local government, private sector, and university settings, she works closely with client organizations to assess their operations and to design improvements that meet their needs and fit their culture. After graduating with honors from Harvard University, she worked in industries as diverse as biomedical research and global supply chain management, obtaining hands-on experience in strategic planning, facilitation, budgeting and financial reporting, grants management, performance metrics and data management, software design and implementation, and complex project management. Andrea has worked with nonprofits of all sizes (from one to 3,000 employees) to build solid processes and systems for finance, human resources, and software development teams, bringing both technical knowledge and change management expertise to her engagements. She has worked with client staff in the U.S., Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia, and has traveled throughout the U.S. as well as Europe, Asia, and Australia. Clients value Andrea’s “keen understanding of (and respect for) our business culture, values, and approaches…[and] her uncanny ability to thoroughly assess what we saw as challenges and translate them into meaningful opportunities for the business.” Andrea’s pro bono work includes serving on nonprofit and cooperative boards as well as advising and teaching workshops on financial management for nonprofits.
