Mark aligns strategy, operations, and culture to execute strategy and improve performance against mission. His expertise is in assessment, strategy, leadership, performance management, decision support and process management. His broad experience includes improving biomedical research operations, facilitating military strategy, reorganizing public schools, transforming professional societies, revitalizing nonprofits, and developing R&D plans. He lectures on ethics, decision making, business simulation, and strategy. He’s a lead quality examiner (Baldrige) and professional society leader, including IMC USA (past National Board Chair, current Ethics Chair), DC Alumni Council of the Harvard Kennedy School, author, speaker, seminar leader, expert witness, facilitator, and listed in Who’s Who Among Emerging Leaders and Who’s Who in America. Mark has degrees from Colgate (biology), where he was elected to Konosioni honor society and from Harvard (planning), where he was a Teaching Fellow.

Mark has held several professional society leadership positions, including the Institute of Management Consultants USA (past national Board chair, current Ethics Committee Chair), Alumni Council of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Society of Petroleum Engineers (past national technical committee chair and chapter president, and recipient of the SPE's prestigious Young Member Outstanding Service Award) and the AAES (R&D Policy and K-12 Education Committees). He has advised many educational organizations including areas such as Gifted and Talented Students, Technology Education, Math and Science Standards and Engineering Education.

Mark has a commercial pilot's license and instrument rating, and he soloed in a plane before he did in a car. In 1982, Mark and his wife quit their jobs to travel around the world, flying to London and flying home from Tokyo a year later. He has coached more than 25 youth sports teams. He used to be a decent golfer (best 18-hole score of 68) and won several tournaments, but time is the great equalizer. He is a Certified One Page Business Plan Consultant.
