Profile: Jane Blume CMC® Owner & Principal, Desert Sky Communications
For four decades, Jane Blume CMC® has been an award-winning communicator who has pursued dual careers in public relations and public broadcasting. Since 1989, her public relations firm, Desert Sky Communications, has helped clients gain visibility and recognition for the wonderful work that they do by getting “the right messages to the right audiences.” Desert Sky’s broad range of services include public, community and media relations planning, training and implementation; corporate identity/graphic design; writing and editing (including articles for internal and external publications, websites, brochures and newsletters); photography; advertising; special events, and website design and hosting services. Virtually all of the firm’s clients come in on referral; they tend to be leaders in their fields or aspire to be; have wonderful stories to tell, and have concern for their community beyond their products and services. In her career, Jane has enjoyed a 90% placement rate in the media for news releases, feature-story and interview ideas, guest articles, letters-to-the editor, and op-ed pieces. Active in IMC USA, Jane was appointed editor of The Connector in the fall of 2008. Previously, she served as vice-chair of the Marketing Committee; on the Professional Development Task Force and Confab Committee; has been a session host at previous Confabs and National Conferences, and in 1999 - with the late Theresa (Teri) Selcoe CMC®/FIMC - founded what is now the New Mexico Chapter of IMC USA. Considered a dynamic and inspiring speaker, Jane is frequently asked to make presentations and conduct trainings about various aspects of public relations to professional associations and non-profit Boards. She has been a presenter at several previous Confabs and “her sessions are always well attended and highly rated” (2004 Confab brochure). Jane has won national, state and local awards for her broadcasting, public relations and community activities from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), National Federation of Community Broadcasters, National Women’s Political Caucus, New Mexico Associated Press, YWCA Middle Rio Grande, New Mexico WOMAN magazine, New Mexico Chapter of The Association for Women in Communications, and Northern New Mexico Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners.
