David E. Steele, CMC Executive Profile
David Steele’s work with CRM strategy and process improvement has received national recognition in the energy industry. Steele's unique contribution to the industry includes the ability to be unusually creative in the analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data. His specific area of expertise is the implementation of macro change initiatives for improvement in customer satisfaction, customer relationship management, customer engagement, sales and marketing, and financial performance.
Steele's professional experience includes leadership positions ranging from front line supervision to officer level responsibility. His hands-on, solutions-driven approach lends itself to helping business teams achieve success, forge new and improved relationships with internal and external business partners, and engaging the entire customer relationship business unit into successful process improvement initiatives. His work has been instrumental in addressing previously failed efforts to create team collaboration, technological innovation strategies, and customer service initiatives which have led to negative customer satisfaction and financial performance.
Steele's involvement with customer facing, customer operations and sales and marketing began as a customer service rep at a public utility while in college. Upon graduation he became a full time training instructor for call center operations; progressing to manager, department head and ultimately the senior officer responsible for all of customer facing, sales and marketing for a Midwestern regulated public utility.
More recently, he was the head of North America for UK based Vertex Business Solutions Ltd, an international business process outsourcing company providing services on three continents. Steele’s North American responsibility included a team of over 1200 employees, in the US and Canada with a matrix relationship to India and the United Kingdom.
In entrepreneurial roles, his success has included start-up ventures and turnaround efforts. He successfully led an accelerated growth and operational excellence strategy for IEI Financial Services resulting in becoming the 29th J.D. Power and Associates Certified Call Center in the US. This led to a successful liquidity event by an international company and consortium of blue chip investors.
In 2009, Steele was selected from a nationally competitive process to the Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. He was reappointed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), US Department of Commerce, to the Board of Examiners for the 2010 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. More recently, Steele has been reappointed for the fourth consecutive year by NIST for the 2012 Board of Examiners.
In 2013, Steele completed residency training on the principles and evaluation criteria for The Shingo Prize. This commitment to lifelong learning and staying current with principles of operational excellence enables Steele to provide exceptional value to clients who are dedicated to broad/deep continuous improvement efforts. The Shingo Prize training is conducted in North America at Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL University).
Steele has also been an award winning faculty member at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business where he has lectured for over 16 consecutive years.
Post college training, Steele’s professional development curricula includes residency at New York Stock Exchange/Euronext, New York Mercantile Exchange, Columbia University, Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Center for Creative Leadership, Sales Performance International, National Institute of Standards and Technology/US Department of Commerce, Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL University).
Steele is a decorated veteran of the US Army intelligence corps; serving in field assignments overseas and strategic assignments in Washington, D.C.
