CMC® Mark to Become Recognized by Worldwide Accreditation Bodies

IMC USA reports some very positive news that will raise the awareness of the CMC® in the marketplace. For some time now, ICMCI has pursued membership in the International Accreditation Forum (IAF - http://www.iaf.nu/), the world association of Conformity Assessment Accreditation Bodies. The IAF's primary function is to develop a single worldwide program of conformity assessment, which reduces risk for business and its customers by assuring them that accredited certificates may be relied upon. Here in the US, both American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and ANSI-American Society for Quality (ASQ) National Accreditation Board (ANAB) are members.

At the most recent ICMCI Congress, the delegates voted to have the organization become a full
member of IAF. What are the implications for IMC USA? We have heard of the upcoming global standard for consulting practice which is based on the CMC®. What IAF membership will mean is that the CMC® process we use will be recognized globally outside of ICMCI, including within ANSI. This will pave the way for far greater recognition of the CMC® in the marketplace, including an ISO standard in the next two years.

IMC USA (through ICMCI) will become certified as an ISO17011 entity, a certification administrator which is recognized at an international level by the national standards bodies such as ANSI (here in the US), and the CMC® process will be recognized as an ISO17024 process. This means that we will have official government recognition for the CMC® and those who have achieved Certification. This, coupled with the government relations work we will do beginning next year, will provide far greater value in the marketplace for your CMC®.
