How to Manage Your Profile

Your profile is one of your most important resources on the IMC website. It is your opportunity to showcase your skills and experience to other members and the public. Access your profile by clicking the "Manage My Profile" link on the home page. On any other page, all information needed to manage your profile, set your preferences and renew your dues are on the right side of the page under the "Manage My Membership" menu.

You have a lot of control over how much information to make available to others and how much you would like to be contacted. However, you create greater professional and business development opportunities by your participation in more groups, balanced by your desire for privacy. The links in Manage My Profile are:

Profile Home - how your personal profile appears to registered site users (IMC members and registered guests)
My Public Profile- how your personal profile appears to unregistered users (your personal blogs and photo albums, if you chose to create them, and the section titled "More Information" are hidden). IMPORTANT: only that information shown in your Public Profile is visible to search engines. Your personal blogs, photos, connections and information in the More Information field are only visible to registered members of the IMC community.
Manage Profile- update all parts of your profile and hide certain data fields (e.g., email address, home address, personal information) by clearing the check box next to the data field. Also allows you to set preference for subscriptions, designate certain pages as favorites, manage your photo gallery of your uploaded images, designate members you wish to connect to, track referrals, look at a list of past and future events for which you have registered through the IMC USA website, and manage your membership. If you are interested in participating in automatic email notification of consulting opportunities in your specified areas of interest, we recommend you create a CV to supplement your profile. The CV is more searchable by prospective clients or teaming partners.
How to Subscribe to Consulting Opportunitites- on the right hand of the page under MY PROFILE, click on MANAGE PROFILE. Scroll down to the heading NETWORKING & CAREERS and click on CAREER POSTINGS. Now click on SUBSCRIBE next to the gree check mark. Select the areas you wish to be notified of consulting opportunitites. Scroll down and click on the box that says SAVE MY PREFERENCES.
Groups- list of communities to which you have registered (your primary chapter has already been assigned, but you may elect to change this), including communities of practice (consulting disciplines, industry specialty, organizational focus and client type), leadership positions, and committees.
Networks - links to your profiles on other social network sites (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter) , which extends your access to other professionals and lets others access yours (optional)
Files and Links - list of files you have attached to your personal profile (e.g., corporate brochure, sample reports, downloadable books and white papers).
Favorites - list of IMC website pages you have designated as your favorites, which speeds your access (no need to navigate through the menu). These can include chapter pages, resources, events, or any custom page on the site (designated by clicking the star at the top of the page. Members may designate categories into which to group favorites.
My Messages (XX New)- internal messages received from another member who wants to contact you (number indicates how many were received while you were offline)
My Connections (XX New)- you may choose to connect to selected members (similar to Facebook) that provides more messaging options (number indicates how many new requests you have received from people who want to connect with you).
Membership Info- indicates your membership type and status of membership. This is where you would renew your membership.
Recommend IMC USA- share with colleagues the opportunity to participate in IMC professional, network, and business development activities. If someone you refer using this system registers with the IMC Website, either as a guest or paid member, you will receive credit and will be eligible for special discounts and recognition.

Member profiles are the core of your visibility to other members and to the public. Many characteristics are hotlinked so you can identify all members with those characteristics. for example, if you see in a profile that a member has an a Consulting Expertise in Strategy, click on that link to pull up a directory of all IMC members with that area of expertise (perfect for teaming).

Watch the short video About Your Profile (coming soon) for more information on how powerful your profile is.

Only Professional, Certified (including Emeritus) and Affiliate Members have profiles. Guests, Student and Lapsed Members are not eligible to post member profiles.

If you do not see a certification that you hold, use the Contact Us form to suggest we include it. Additions are based on both the logic of the suggestion and the number of individuals recommend it for inclusion.

How to Renew Your Membership

Under "My Profile" on the right side of the page, click "Membership Info" (second to bottom menu item) to access your membership status and renew your membership, if applicable. This will tell you your current member type and the status of your membership. Click the "Securely renew your membership now" link to renew. If you would like an email confirmation of your dues payment sent to you, click the "Send confirmation email" link after you have competed your transaction. That's it.

Click "Contact Us" at the top of any page if you have any questions.

How to Manage Your CV

The Resumé/CV is an additional way to provide your information to potential teaming partners and clients. It is the basis of the opportunity center. Individuals or companies looking for consulting expertise, if they choose not to search directly using the Find A Consultant service, may post a position description. IMC members may subscribe to be notified when a position matching their consulting specialty or interest area is posted. This service is available to Professional and Certified members only.

To add/edit your CV, click the "My Resumé/CV" link in your Manage My Membership menu. You will be able to enter a 'headline" (up to 100 characters) that describes your key value, your objective in seeking consulting engagements (what you are really good at), your experience, your education and specific skills, and your willingness to travel.

You are also asked about how you would like to be classified. This is important because it defines how well a prospect can find you. You may enter a primary and additional professional categories under which you would like to be found. We suggest you use "Consulting" as your primary category, unless you consider yourself as working primarily in another industry (e.g., Media, Banking).

Enter your type of position sought (i.e., consulting engagement. full time consulting position, volunteer or intern), level of academic education you have obtained, and your length of relevant professional experience. You may indicate if you want to link your Resumé/CV to your IMC personal page, to include your Resumé/CV in search results, to display your name, to display your e-mail address, or whether potential employers can contact you (probably yes!).

Finally, we provide the ability to attach a document to your Resumé/CV. For example you might want to include a company brochure or a collection of news clippings about your work.

Once you have created your Resumé/CV (and indicated that it should be visible on your personal page), a link will appear at the top of your profile page allowing anyone to view your Resumé/CV and any attached documents.

How to Post Opportunities

If someone is looking for a management consultant and does not want to use the Find A consultant search service, they can post an opportunity. This is useful if you are looking for a teaming partner, or a manager or executive is looking for a consultant. Accessible through the Find A Consultant link on the main menu, the Post an Opportunity page. These are equivalent to the Flash Opportunities IMC has previously emailed to members on Fridays. One major difference with this service is that IMC will be more vigorously promoting its use by industry and government.

You will be asked to describe the position, when you will need the consultant, how long to post the opportunity, contact information, the category(ies) in which you are looking (most likely it will be "Consulting"), and education, experience and salary information. You may allow applicants to apply online or gie instructions on how to apply directly. After providing a description of the position, you must identify yourself and complete a CAPTCHA verification step (to prevent automated access to these profiles).

You may view your postings and see how many people have applied online, how many times it has been viewed, and its posting and expiration status.

If you want to provide feedback on this tutorial or any aspect of the site, use the Contact Us form at the top of any page.
