  • Dear IMC,

There will be no IMC SoCal evening program this month. We resume our evening program on January 16, 2007 with Cliff Atkinson - PowerPoint expert, consultant & author "Better than Bullets"

We wish you all a joyous and prosperous holiday season and new year!

    President's Message

It’s an exciting time to be an IMC member!

If you’ve been reading the bulletins from National, you’re aware that we’ve put our financial difficulties behind us, and are moving ahead on many fronts. Most conspicuous are the new courses being offered online by the IMC USA Academy and affiliates Rain Today and Alan Weiss.

We’re also integrating ourselves into the wider business community, with strategic alliances with the American Management Association, Vistage International (the world’s largest CEO membership organization, used to be The Executive Committee (TEC)), Kennedy Information, and Harvard Business School Publishing.

On the international level, the IMC’s of two European countries are on the ISO committee developing the international standards for management consulting.

Locally, we just had a dynamic panel of experts on the value and techniques of writing and publishing for consultants, led by Mike Grimshaw, including our own CMCS Jim Ayers, Don McNamara, and Paul Glen, plus visiting experts Dan Poynter, Chris Malburg and Gerald Sindell.

Dan returned for the evening keynote, on some basics of being an expert witness, and techniques for responding to typical cross-examination questions.

    Regional Breakfast Meetings

LAX IMC BREAKFAST MEETING - December 1, 2006

"Management and Systems Approach for Consultants"
    with Svetlana Eremenko, Ph.D.

We will discuss how the system’s approach can help you to simplify complex, changing situation, outline problems more clearly and model the key variables inside and outside the organization. We will see how the understanding of an underlying structure can help identifying the most appropriate leverage points to bring the desired change within the system. We will also discuss practical guidelines on the use of an open systems approach in dealing with complexity and uncertainty that change always brings with it. With this holistic perspective, you can see the dynamics of the situation clearer and then can take actions that are best for your organization in the long run.

Don't miss this all important breakfast meeting on December 1, which will be very informative as well as a great networking experience with your fellow consultants in the greater Los Angeles area.

    • Drafting a standard consulting agreement that covers the bases. Using your standard agreement as part of your sales process. Protecting your ideas during the pre-engagement phase. Negotiating the scope of the engagement. Tailoring your standard agreement into a success roadmap so that you actually get paid, while minimizing the risk of lawsuit.

    Member News

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jim Kennedy last month at 82. Jim, the founder of Consultants News and the forerunner of today’s Kennedy Information, was the spokesperson for the management consulting profession for decades, and a big supporter (albeit critic when needed) of the organizations serving us and our clients. He will be missed.
