Dear IMC,
DON'T MISS our February 21, 2006, Dinner Meeting!
Don’t Wait…Negotiate!
with Mimi Donaldson, co-author of Negotiating for Dummies
Consulting seems like one continuous chain of negotiations. We negotiate terms, close the deal, manage expectations, negotiate changes in scope, negotiate issues as they come up, and more!
What do you think about when you’re getting ready to negotiate? Do you panic or get anxious? Learn how to get what we want with dignity and honor. Contracts, partnerships, managing people, parenting and other relationships all require us to be skilled at asking for and getting what we need. Co-author of the million-seller Negotiating for Dummies, Mimi will help you master the arts of: preparing, setting limits, maintaining emotional distance, listening, being clear and closing any deal. Understand the six skills to develop for successful negotiations.
- Prepare for any negotiation.
- Identify the limits needed for a successful negotiation.
- Learn how to push your “pause button” to keep your emotions in check.
- Evaluate your speech, body language and gestures and those of others to gain favorable results.

Taking Flight with Your Practice |
 |
|
Professional Development for The Institute of Management Consultants – Southern California Chapter will be providing another in the very successful “Taking Flight with Your Practice” sessions this coming fall and winter. We will be providing a limited number of openings to attend a series of workshops facilitated by one of the local members and experienced consultant. Space is limited to eight attendees per course in order to provide proper attention and assistance for each attendee.
Taking Flight with Your Practice is a two-part program the first of which deals with Developing the Engagement, while the second will cover Delivering the Engagement and Disengaging from the Client.
The entire series consists of 6-up to 2 hour meetings. Originally presented on a limited basis in the United States, it has become so popular and beneficial that it is being provided nationally and more specifically for the second time in southern California.
Initially targeted for those with 0-3 years consulting experience, it has proven popular with individuals repositioning a consulting practice and with smaller firms seeking a good training and orientation program for their consultants.
Last year we met at The Renaissance Hotel at LAX at 1:30PM on the third Tuesday of those months when an IMC Dinner Program was offered. This was just prior to the regularly scheduled IMC Southern California Dinner Meeting. We expect a similar day and time will be set for the upcoming session.
The Renaissance Hotel
9620 Airport Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90045
Phone: (310) 337 2800
Meeting dates are yet to be established; We will begin the next session January 2006 once we receive six confirmed enrollees.

"Using Fear and Risk Aversion to Sell Your Consulting Services"
with
Hank Goldman, Executive Managing Partner, Risk Management Associates International, LLP
The classical way to sell consulting services is to sell a vision of success, as defined by increased sales and profits. But there is another approach, and that is to help the client minimize or avoid risks. Many clients don't even understand the risks they are facing -- or what to do about them. That's where the consultant comes in to help.
Don't miss this opportunity to gain some invaluable, practical sales and marketing know-how. This one of our monthly Orange County IMC Breakfast meetings -- a great low-cost learning and networking opportunity for your consulting business.
Time & Place
Place: Mezzanine Restaurant, 19800 MacArthur Blvd., Irvine, CA 92612
Date: Friday, February 10, 2006
