    President's Message

Now We Know How to Run Our Projects!

A very meaty IMC SoCal January program gave us new tools for running projects. Lynda Roth brought us a great panel representing clients' as well as consultants' views on conducting projects, and she kept them interacting to give us a broad perspective. She followed up with an excellent speaker, Dorianne Cotter-Lockhard, who left me with some new concepts and a couple of references I'm anxious to read!

We can use the information for our newest IMC SoCal initiatives. Of course, it's Nominations time - Harald Weiss is looking for new Board members as Chair of the Nominating Committee. And Jerry Savin, of CmCC, is developing ideas for new programs for the Chapter.

Please contact them with your ideas - and especially if you're ready to volunteer!

    Best wishes,
    Margaret Chock CMC, President

    IMC SoCal Marketing Roundtable

The chapter is preparing to launch a Marketing Roundtable. The start date is contingent on identifying a facilitator. Hopefully we can begin the program in March.

The Marketing Roundtable will be an opportunity for consultants to develop a marketing plan and get advice and feedback from their peers. The Roundtable will include an evaluation of current marketing plans, development of a marketing plan, the importance of being able to succinctly express your consulting practice and the types of clients and projects you seek, guidelines for collateral materials, etc. Roundtable participants can suggest topics for future meetings.

If you are interested in participating, please email Jerry Savin at jsavin@ctcg.com If you have specific questions or issues you would like discussed, include them in your email.

NEW - IMC SoCal Brainstorm Meeting February 4

Save the evening of Monday, February 4th for a special IMC SoCal members-only dinner meeting to discuss possible new programs for IMC SoCal. These would be less formal, more interactive meetings than our current monthly dinners and breakfasts.

Jerry Savin has proposed several possible formats, which will be mailed to members; please come prepared to discuss these plus your own ideas. One or more will be selected for testing over the next few months.

If you'd like to come, or can't come but want to contribute suggestions, please contact Margaret Chock, MChock@MIBChock.com, 310-829-1612 as early as possible.

Congratulations to Lynda Roth for a super clients- and-consultants panel.

The panel was outstanding. Among other topics discussed were: The importance of face-to-face meetings between clients and their consultants; Breaking large projects into smaller pieces so consultants can be quickly successful; Re-iterating the importance of staying on budget on schedule; Preference for consulting specialists with niche experience; Younger staff are interested in working with experienced consultants; Role of a virtual workforce; Companies don't want consulting firms to back the 'schoolbus' up to the back room and unload a bunch of inexperienced junior consultants on them. These are just some of the comments that struck me. If you attended the panel, I'm sure you have your own list. If not, consider our future meetings as opportunities to network and learn.
