Dear IMC,
Fall Speaker Announcements!
September 19th will be the first meeting for the IMC- SoCal program year ('06-'07) featuring Linnea McCord on the topic of "Essential Ethics for Survival and Success the 21st Century" and workshop will be championed by our own "CFO for Rent" Gene Siciliano-CMC.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Contrary to popular belief, the rules of ethical conduct in the United States are:
- NOT situational
- NOT relative
- NOT unclear
- NOT hard to teach, and
- NOT optional!
Another dangerous myth is, “it’s unethical, but legal”. Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to land in prison for more than 25 years for unethical conduct even though the best accounting and law firms in the country said it was “legal”.
In the current era of stepped-up enforcement, criminal indictments, prison sentences, public scandal and damaged reputations, consultants and their clients cannot afford to be confused about ethics. An ethical lapse in today’s environment may be fatal.
In this session, you will learn (1) the true meaning of ethics, (2) why ethical conduct is not optional, (3) what the simple and clear rules of ethical conduct are, and (4) why ethical conduct is your best competitive advantage in today’s hyper-competitive global economy.
About Linnea McCord, J.D., M.B.A., Linnea is a professor of Business Law, Graziadio School of Business and Management, Pepperdine University, 28 years experience teaching business ethics and law.
As an in-house corporate counsel and later the General Counsel of a division of a high-tech Fortune Global 500 multinational corporation, Dr. McCord taught business ethics and law seminars for all levels of management, from the newest management trainees to top-level executives of the company.
Dr. McCord is currently teaching, researching and writing in the field of business ethics and corporate governance.

President's Message |
 |
|
THANK YOU!
I would like to thank the many, many members, panelists, speakers, board members and chapter officers with whom I have been privileged to work on IMC projects over the past three and a half years as V.P. of Professional Development, V. P. of Chapter Programs and, most recently, as Chapter President. Our chapter need the work of many, many dedicated volunteers -- each doing a little -- to do a big job so that we may educate new professionals and provide continuing support to us old-timers. There are so many people who have helped me in the past years, but I believe that a few deserve special mention -- Jennifer Beever, Marsha Lewin, Kim Athmann-King. Jennifer and Marsha are both previous IMC Presidents who have kept me out of trouble, listened to my gripes, pointed me in new directions and come to my rescue in ways too numerous to mention. Kim Athmann-King has served as the treasurer during my entire two term as president and has kept us both solvent and practical in dealing with the many financial concerns of the chapter.
Most important, I want to thank and acknowledge Margaret Chock, our incoming president. Margaret has been the V. P. for the past year and has been instrumental in getting many policy and procedural things working that had been neglected. She has done a fine job or confirming board members to continue on the board as well as recruiting new members who will add exciting new dimensions to our chapter. Thank you so very much. I know that you will do a great job in the years ahead as president of IMC SoCal.
I have developed many professional relationships through our efforts and have come to have a deep knowledge and respect for consultants that I knew only peripherally prior to our working together on Chapter projects. While it has been a lot of work, it has also been a great opportunity to learn more about other consulting specialties and to be able to tap into resources that I previously knew little about. Thanks to each and every one of you. I am extremely honored to be in your company.
I will continue to be a support to the chapter as the Immediate Past President and I look forward to seeing you around the Southern California IMC circuit.
Happy Consulting!
Dennis McCue CMC

Taking Flight with Your Practice |
 |
|
Professional Development for The Institute of Management Consultants – Southern California Chapter will be providing another in the very successful “Taking Flight with Your Practice” sessions this coming fall and winter. We will be providing a limited number of openings to attend a series of workshops facilitated by one of the local members and experienced consultant. Space is limited to eight attendees per course in order to provide proper attention and assistance for each attendee.
Taking Flight with Your Practice is a two-part program the first of which deals with Developing the Engagement, while the second will cover Delivering the Engagement and Disengaging from the Client.
The entire series consists of 6-up to 2 hour meetings. Originally presented on a limited basis in the United States, it has become so popular and beneficial that it is being provided nationally and more specifically for the second time in southern California.
Initially targeted for those with 0-3 years consulting experience, it has proven popular with individuals repositioning a consulting practice and with smaller firms seeking a good training and orientation program for their consultants.
Last year we met at The Renaissance Hotel at LAX at 1:30PM on the third Tuesday of those months when an IMC Dinner Program was offered. This was just prior to the regularly scheduled IMC Southern California Dinner Meeting. We expect a similar day and time will be set for the upcoming session.
The Renaissance Hotel
9620 Airport Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90045
Phone: (310) 337 2800
Meeting dates are yet to be established; We will begin the next session January 2006 once we receive six confirmed enrollees.

Peter Crosby, CMC, will be speaking on the subject of "Successful Supply Chains I Have Known" at the Financial Executives Institute (FEI) at the downtown Jonathan Club on Th Sept 21 at 5PM.
Don McNamara CMC was quoted in the May 2006 issue of Sales and Marketing Management Magazine. The lead article by staff writer Fred Gebhart is titled Managing Right for the 21st Century. The quote reads “The challenge today is management versus leadership,” says consultant Don McNamara, president of Heritage Associates, based in Laguna Niguel, California, and author of Visionary Sales Leadership. “Managers implement policy, leaders make things happen. Too many sales and marketing managers, even senior executives, are making day-to-day tactical decisions and not paying enough attention to strategic direction. They know they have to increase profits over last quarter, but they don’t allow themselves the time to analyze and chart the course that will take them there.” |
