  • Dear IMC,

We have a new, improved website for the convenience of our members and visitors. You will find it very user- friendly.

IMC SoCal has an exciting program beginning in January - Taking Flight - that is designed to help young (in the field) consultants get a rapid start on practice development. Facilitated by Don McNamara, CMC, it has been designed by top management consultants and is a program of IMC USA. Do not miss the opportunity to participate in this dynamic program. I am convinced that it will serve those of us who are more experienced, as well. Any consultant who wants to take his/her practice to a new level would be wise to participate. Having the opportunity to reflect on your practice and get the feedback of peers will be very valuable. I encourage even the most experienced of us to consider "Taking Flight"!

We host monthly chapter meetings and several area breakfasts. The Orange County and LAX breakfasts have been going strong for quite some time. We launched a new breakfast program in October in Pasadena under the expert eye of Michele Dortch. They will be held on the fourth Tuesday each month. I am pleased to announce that we are in the initial stages of re- invigorating our San Fernando Valley/Ventura breakfast, too.

    Dennis McCue, CMC
    IMC So Cal Chapter President

IMC SoCal Chapter Meeting--The Economic Climate for Southern California Consulting

Our November Monthly Meeting will be presented by Jack Kyser, Senior Vice President & Chief Economist for Los Angeles Economic Development Corp on Tuesday, November 16. Networking begins at 5:30 p.m. Dinner at 6:00 p.m. Program starts at 6:45 p.m. at the LAX Renaissance Hotel, 9620 Airport Blvd., Los Angeles (1/4 mile north of Century Blvd.)

This highly educational and insightful talk will start off with covering economic and business trends at the national and the state levels. It will then be focused down to the local level. The business base in Southern California is small-to-medium sized firms (2- to 250 employees). They are concerned about cost containment, and operating more efficiently. In addition, many are facing competition from off-shore firms. There will be modest improvement in California's business environment over the next 12 months, so it will continue to be a struggle to survive for many.

The key challenge for management consultants will be to find potential clients and to communicate that there would be a value to the services. The good news is that the local business base is large and many sectors have favorable growth prospects.

About Jack Kyser, Senior VP & Chief Economist for Los Angeles Economic Development Corp

Called the "guru of the Los Angeles economy" by the Los Angeles Business Journal, Mr. Kyser is responsible for interpreting and forecasting economic trends in the Los Angeles five-county area (Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties), and for analyzing the major industries of the area. Utilizing this information, he helps develop job retention and creation strategies for Los Angeles County. Mr. Kyser's advice is frequently sought by business, government and the media.

Accenture Posts 52% Rise in 4Q Profits

Hamilton, Bermuda (Oct. 19, 2004) - Buoyed by strong performances in its consulting and outsourcing units, consulting giant Accenture posted a 52 percent rise in its fourth quarter profits to $183 million, versus the year-ago period for the period ended Aug. 31.

System-wide revenue jumped 10 percent to $3.5 billion. For the year, the former Andersen Consulting said that profits were $693 million compared with $498 million over fiscal 2003. System-wide revenues jumped roughly 7 percent to $15.1 billion vs. the prior- year figures.

New bookings for the fourth quarter and year-end rose 7 percent and 25 percent, to $4 billion and $20.1 billion, respectively.

"Our growth was widespread, with net revenue increases in each of our five operating groups and across all three geographic regions," said Accenture chief executive William Green. "We are encouraged by the continued gains we achieved in our consulting business, and by growth in our outsourcing business, which now accounts for 37 percent of our net revenues."
