Dear IMC,
Don't miss our IMC Monthly Meeting on Tuesday, November 28, 2006. NOTE MEETING DATE CHANGE
The evening session, Serving as an Expert Witness will be presented by Dan Poynter
The afternoon session, How Publishing Increases "Get Known" and "Get Business" for Your Practice will be presented by Don McNamara CMC, President of Heritage Associates, Inc.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
Evening: Serving as an Expert Witness with Dan Poynter
As our society becomes increasingly complex, more and more attorneys and judges are turning to consultants to explain how things occur. These consultants are expert witnesses. These litigation consultants advise attorneys, judges and juries as to what happened or what should have happened in accidents and other legal cases. 18-million lawsuits are filed each year in the United States by 850,000 lawyers. Each case needs at least two expert witnesses to explain what took place or to describe industry procedures.
You will discover:
- What an expert witness does. Imagine getting paid to read in your field.
- How and how much an expert witness charges.
- How an expert witness finds clients.
- How to prepare for testimony.
- What will happen in the courtroom
- What are the tough questions and how you should answer them.
- How to make your testimony more effective. and much, much more.
An additional profit center for consultants. This event is not just for engineers, doctors or city planners. It is for every professional and consultant who wants an exciting new career as well as every expert witness who wants to serve more professionally and more successfully. A multimedia show with handouts.
A must event for every practicing and would be expert witness.
Wring more value out of your expertise.

| Afternoon Session: How Publishing Increases "Get Known" and "Get Business" for Your Practice
Moderator: Don McNamara
You are already the expert in your field and niche. You have the credentials and background that establishes the fact you went through experiences to "Get Smart". You also know the secret of a sustained profitable consultancy is to be constantly marketing and developing new prospective clients.
Therefore experience dictates you need a wider outreach in order to be established as the preeminent 'go to' consultant in your specialty.
You will learn from this panel of published authors:
- What's in it for you [WIIFY]
- How publishing raises the "Get Known" factor
- Why publishing increases the "Get Business" factor
- How publishing affects the impression you leave with other consultants, referral sources, prospective and current clients
- Why publishing is a psychological edge in the mind of the whole universe
In the November 28 afternoon workshop hear from panel members about how they use print and electronic publishing to increase the awareness level of their practice, as well as attract and retain new clients.

President's Message |
 |
|
Our joint meeting with APC in Orange County went off very well. We don’t have the final statistics yet, but there were more than 60 attendees, about 1/3 from IMC (members or registrants through our web site). Our Harald Weiss led a lively discussion of the numerous essential components of a consultant’s web site, and the ways to bring traffic to it.
Michael McLaughlin, author of Guerilla Marketing for Consultants, gave a good overview of how we should approach marketing in general – and very specific ways we can differentiate ourselves from other consultants. The comments I heard from the audience both during and after the sessions were all enthusiastic.
If you attended, we’d like your reactions – please email me at mibchock@cs.com. We expect to hold more dinner meetings in Orange County, and are considering joint meetings with other organizations. Please send your comments and suggestions on those plans as well.
For next month, we’ll be at the Ayres in El Segundo again (right at the 405, very easy to get to). But we’ll be meeting 4th Thursday, the 28th, to avoid conflicts with the Thanksgiving holiday. Mark your calendars carefully!
Margaret Chock CMC, President

LAX IMC BREAKFAST MEETING - November 3, 2006
"Agreements for Successful Consulting Engagements" with Michael Oswald, Principal of The General Counsel
You know what you agreed to do, but does your client? You just shook hands with your new client, and now you are ready to jump into the new engagement. Or at least you think you are ready. If you don’t have a rock-solid consulting agreement that spells out the deliverables and sets forth the ground rules for the engagement, you are setting up the client and yourself for disappointment (or worse). At our Friday, Nov. 3 IMC LA-Westside Breakfast Meeting, learn what every consultant must know about drafting and negotiating that special form of contract known as a Consulting Agreement. Michael S. Oswald, law professor and co-founder of The General Counsel, LLC, will teach you what you need to know about:
- Drafting a standard consulting agreement that covers the bases. Using your standard agreement as part of your sales process. Protecting your ideas during the pre-engagement phase. Negotiating the scope of the engagement. Tailoring your standard agreement into a success roadmap so that you actually get paid, while minimizing the risk of lawsuit.
- Making sure the agreement keeps up with the inevitable changes in scope during the engagement.
Don't miss this all important breakfast meeting on November 3, which will be very informative as well as a great networking experience with your fellow consultants in the greater Los Angeles area. Expect a lively discussion with lots of practical examples.
