PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
Evening:The Art of Guerrilla Marketing for Consultants
Every consultant knows that balancing client service commitments with marketing activities is essential to the health of a consulting practice. But the demands of client service often overwhelm a consultant’s best intentions to actively market the business, which can result in dwindling prospects for future client work.
This classic “feast or famine” conundrum is complicated by shifting patterns in the way clients buy services. Many traditional approaches to marketing a consulting practice aren’t working as effectively as in the past.
Guerrilla Marketing for Consultants is a toolkit of strategies and tactics to help consultants boost their market visibility, sell new work, and serve clients -- without breaking the bank.
This interactive session will cover the fundamentals for guerrilla marketing for consultants and emphasize:
- How buyer behavior has shifted and what consultants must do to keep pace.
- The two most important components of a consultant’s marketing strategy.
- What marketing tactics are working most effectively for consultants in today’s market, and which ones are falling flat.
- Why traditional market differentiators have lost strength, and what can be done to put the power back into your marketing messages.
- How to decide which marketing investments are right for your business.
- How to create a cost-effective, executable marketing strategy for your practice.
At the end of the session, you’ll have the marketing tools and techniques to strike that balance between client service and marketing -- while maintaining your sanity.
Afternoon Session: Website Content & Website Promotion for Consultants
Learn from your fellow consultants what has and has not worked for them in generating consulting business from their website(s). Take away practical ideas on how to create a new website or improve the one that you already have. The first half hour of the workshop will consist of round-table discussions, where we will discuss "Essential Topics that Should be in a Consultant's Website" and "Techniques to Promote Your Consultant's Website." The second half hour of the workshop will be the debriefing of the various roundtables and general discussion, with results being projected on a screen.
The workshop will be led by Harald Weiss, President of Technical Marketing Group, Inc. Commenting on the debriefing and adding their special inputs to the discussion will be Henry DeVries, President of the New Client Marketing Institute, and Michael McLaughlin, our evening speaker and principal of MindShare Consulting LLC

President's Message |

You missed a great September dinner meeting!
(Unless, of course, you were there).
Gene Siciliano CMC, our CFO for Rent, led a workshop on the ethical issues that consultants sometimes face. The discussion was lively when we started getting into some of the gray areas. Linnea McCord of Pepperdine followed with a rousing lecture on the critical importance of ethics to the American economic system, winding up with a set of 10 basic ethical principles that can be applied to any business situation.
According to a preliminary sampling of opinion we are pleased with the Ayres Hotel as a dinner meeting venue. It’s attractive, the food is good. Compared to our previous location, the extra distance south for Valley attendees is offset by closeness to the freeway.
We have a new Membership Chair. Becky Collins volunteered to replace DeWayne Snodgrass, who left IMC for business reasons. Becky is an accounting and finance consultant. Thank you, Becky!
That brings our Board back up to strength. However, our support for committees is very thin; with consultants’ irregular schedules, we’re frequently faced with hunting for someone to fill in at the last minute – and too often that turns out to be another Officer or Board member who’s supposed to be focusing on another set of responsibilities. Please volunteer! We need experienced members who have handled these positions before and can pick up the reins quickly. We also need new members who are willing to learn the job, with an eye to taking a more visible role in the organization. This is how we build business relationships!
I look forward to seeing you at next month’s joint meeting with APC in Orange County – more new relationships to build!
