Member Directory Search

Posted By Mark Haas CMC FIMC, Sunday, December 21, 2008
We have provided a number of ways to locate another member. At the top right corner of every page, we provide a QuickSearch tied to the Member Directory. You may enter a partial or full first or last name, company or organization name, or city name. The search will return all member records meeting those search criteria. Results will give you access to member profiles.

An alternative an d more powerful way to locate members is to use the Find A Consultant search. This feature allows you to:
  • Search by name, location, groups, profession and more
  • Search by member type, chapter, community of practice
  • Search by IMC committee or leadership affiliation
  • Search by sector, industry, NAICS Code, consulting specialty, and academic degree
  • Search by certification or license and whether an individual is a speaker
  • Search members and non-members
  • Invite members to join your connections list
  • Quick-link to member profiles
  • View maps of member addresses
  • Email and message members directly from the site
This is the same Find A Consultant search prospective clients will use so it is important for member who wish to be visible to teaming partners or prospective clients to complete and maintain their profile.

Calendar and Events

Posted By Mark Haas CMC FIMC, Sunday, December 21, 2008
To facilitate collaboration, the site offers a robust calendar and events  capability. Critical dates as well as chapter and national events are posted on community wide and group calendars. A main events calendar can be filtered (by a drop down menu) to see events for a selected chapter, the IMC USA Academy for professional development, conferences, and the Leadership Series. Each group (including chapters) may maintain its own calendar and choose to share or not its events with the community at large. The community calendar contains all events and dates posted (and designated for inclusion in the community calendar) and is available on the top right of every site page. Calendar and event capabilities include:
  • Register for events online
  • Purchase event tickets and items via credit card
  • Pricing may differ for nonmember and member or by member type
  • View event registration attendee lists and comments (if enabled by event administrator)
  • Read comprehensive event information and details
  • View event-specific photo galleries
  • Receive email registration confirmation
  • Receive reminder emails for registered events
  • View and print event location map
  • Read RSS event feeds RSS (subscription is available for the entire community calendar)
  • Add events to Microsoft Outlook (through an ical export)
  • Send event Tell-a-Friend alerts
  • Access related products from the IMC USA Online Store (e.g., a book written by an author speaking at a chapter event)

Community Groups & Chapters

Posted By Mark Haas CMC FIMC, Sunday, December 21, 2008
The basic unit of collaboration within this website is the "group." A group is any collection of member with a common interest. Groups can be geographic chapters, communities of practice (e.g., formed around industries, technical disciplines, stage of a consulting firm development), internal IMC communities and committees, and special collaboration foci such as members recommending services or products for consultants (in Members Recommend . .).

All groups require site registration (free and consists of a name and email address only) for access. Some groups are open to all (requests to join automatically approved), membership in others subject to approval (e.g., some committees), and for a few membership is limited to certain member types (e.g., CMC Network) or elected or appointed IMC members (e.g., Board of Directors, chapter presidents).

Accessible through the Chapters and Communities menu item, members may:
  • Browse available groups
  • Select groups you would like to join
  • Access group homepages
  • Browse group member profiles
  • Request access to private groups
  • Apply to become a group administrator
  • View private group content, wikis and file libraries
  • View, post, tag and subscribe to group blogs
  • View, post and tag photos in group galleries
  • Register for group-specific events
  • Send messages to group members
Groups, particularly Communities of Practice, are only as valuable as the activity of their members. Members are encouraged to actively participate and contribute to the growth and development of groups. Inactive groups will be removed by the site administrator and suggestions for new groups accepted depending on interest.

To propose a new Community of Practice, use our suggestion form.
