IMC NCR President's Holiday Message

Posted By Richard E. Ziegler, Thursday, December 9, 2010

The IMC NCR Holiday Celebration tonight is more than just good food, drink, fiends and acquaintances. It is also a time to connect with your Board members who should all be together tonight.

What do your Board members have to tell you? Well, for starters we are nearly done with Chapter Dinner meeting planning for ALL of 2011. Those attending tonight will have the first look at the 2011 agenda and be able to provide input to John Strawhorn, Programs Chair, and other Board members before the agenda is carved in stone this month.

The last time I checked we had five groups of program topics with about 19 different topics for 2011. Since there are only 12 months in a year and since some of the topics will require more than the 90 minutes provided at the Chapter Dinner meetings, we anticipate that some of the 19 topics will spin off into our half day Professional Development series. This creativity exceeds Dream Job/Worst Nightmare, and Consultants meeting Consultants, and is based on our member and other chapters’ research.

Tonight is an opportunity for you to share with Angela, John, or me your recommendations for our 2011 Professional Development series. As you can tell, our Chapter is on the move. Still, we have one Board position to fill for a Professional Development Chair. In addition, Angela might move into Professional Development if a Chapter member steps forward to be the Marketing Chair. We already have a couple of interested candidates for the Board but need a couple more to make the best decision for the Chapter.

There are also opportunities to support specific Board Chairs in their functional areas and I might say that these support volunteers will be first in line if new Board positions open up during 2011 or as we transition to a new Board this coming year for 2012.

The Board would also like to hear your opinions on a new location for the 2011 Chapter Dinner Meetings. We have a set of criteria like convenience, parking, metro access, etc and we are currently looking at City Club (Franklin or Columbia Square) and The Columbus Club (Metro Station). You may have others you would like to recommend and expressing your choices face to face with our Board members will make a greater impact on our decisions this month than simply an email.

You have spoken and we have listened. The coming year will also include a New and Prospective Member orientation every quarter. It will probably be over a morning breakfast. Our goals include member education, leadership development, a different format from the Chapter Dinner meetings, personal contact with our Board for that special "touch”, increased membership and retention, etc. If all comes together we may have our first orientation sometime in January. Tonight is an opportunity for you to discuss your ideas with Raymond Suarez, Membership Chair.

Finally, we have a goal for 2011 to be more proactive and to provide more marketing and promotion lead time. One way we are now doing this is with monthly Board meetings to improve coordination. In 2011 we will have four physical Board meetings and the rest will be by teleconference as we did this month. I have also noticed where more action items are being developed each month in the interest of serving you…our valued member.

We are closing out the year in a sound financial position. We are positioned for success in 2011. Will you join us in being part of that success?

I have been asked about parking tonight. If you are driving, there is $10 parking below the Franklin Square City Club building or you can try a loop around the block for $3 in quarters.

Truly Warm regards,

Richard E. Ziegler, MS-Org & Mgmt.
