Practiced Spontaneity Through Applied Improv:  How Improv Theater Practices Enhance Consultants’ Effectiveness

Facilitated by Izzy Gesell, M.ED, CSP (Certified Speaking Professional)

Tuesday, October 3, 2017
2:00 pm (Eastern) / 11pm (Pacific)

Consultants need to be nimble, attentive, confident and creative in order to personally thrive while positively relating to others. Interestingly, the same is true of Improv Theater performers.

While it is true that improv theater is about entertaining the audience, making things up, and generally “winging it,” the skills that make improvisers so successful are attainable and applicable, if not crucial, to consultants. Among those skills are staying present, listening carefully, being solution-oriented, being adaptable, tapping into creativity and working as a team.

Improvisation theater games are deceptively powerful tools that help maintain mental and emotional equilibrium. The games invite participants to safely enter and embrace the unknown, relate to others without assumption or judgment, exist in a state of absolute and unconditional acceptance of what is offered, The mindset helps us expand our comfort zone, relate to others in a cooperative way, confidently accept reality, learn to act on things we can control and let go of things we cannot control, and enjoy and value working with others.

In this entertaining, informative and immediately applicable program we’ll go behind the curtain and into the mind of improvisers and leave with ways to be more confident, spontaneous, and balanced people.

Participants will be able to:

  1. Describe their own behavior around their perceived limitations.
  2. Discuss 5 improv skills or qualities that are useful for consultants.
  3. Apply a tactic to engage in difficult conversations without escalating to conflict.

C2M Live!

Our monthly events provide community, learning, mentoring and thoughtful conversation – and nurture relationships that lead to collaboration and business growth.

They are not presentations in the traditional sense. – they are conversations and facilitated discussions with participants sharing their knowledge and experience.  There is no “expert” opining – it is a peer-to-peer experience.

Our key goals are:

  • Create a community of peers, unencumbered by geography
  • Discuss:
  • issues that affect the economy and commerce
  • things that our clients worry about
  • strategic issues
  • macro business issues that need clarity
  • methods for businesses to be more competitive
  • Grow the competence of the participating consultants through the information and insights gained during the sessions.

We use technology that allows 100 individuals to participate “on screen” – or you may participate by telephone.

Sessions begin at 2 pm East Coast Time - we encourage attendees to login 30 minutes EARLY to get to connect to their peers.  This provides attendees the opportunity to get to know each other and, as stated earlier, to engender the community of peers spirit IMC is committed to promoting.

We looking to having join you us in the conversation and ask you forward suggestions for future topics to Juan A. Negroni, CMC® at
