September Sector Focus: Energy
We are pleased to continue our industry focus theme with Simone Katzman and Vivek Singhal leading our discussion on the outlook for energy in terms of today's two metric approach to measuring the “goodness" of a product or service. That is what is the contribution to "need" for the product as well as what is the contribution to "environmental quality" by the product's use.
Or in other words what is the QUANTITY and QUALITY QUOTIENT of the energy sources we now see in our future. These include sources we can score on a "dirty to clean" dimension and "scarce to abundant" dimension. This results could be shown in a 2D scatterplot of the showing the ratings for current and expected energy sources. Define an X/Y axis with Economic Impact for the vertical axis ranging from Scarce to Abundant and Environmental Impact for the horizontal axis ranging from dirty to clean .For example: One energy source is Soft Coal which we would plot near the top of and adjacent to the Y axis since it is abundant and dirty. During our discussion we will add additional sources of energy onto our scatterplot.
The following sources have abundant information of just about any topic in the energy space, and we suggest you browse these web sites to get an idea of the extent of data for this “industry”.
And I close mentioning a recent article in the Wall St Journal that suggests there are serious questions on whether "renewables" are as clean and resource use friendly as we are being told?
Vivek Singhal CMC, founded Strategic Business Management Co., the first ISO 9000 certified management consulting firm, in 1986. He has served as an advisor to India's National Knowledge Commission, a body set up by the Prime Minister of India to use technology to help India leapfrog into the future. Vivek teaches as an adjunct professor at several local and international universities
