Jerry Savin to Address Making Consulting
Engagement Arrangements Work Well for Both
Parties and Lead to Successful Consulting Projects

Former Chairman of IMC USA and past IMC SoCal Chapter President Jerry Savin will be our featured speaker on “Making Consulting Engagement Arrangements that Work Well for Both Parties and Lead to Success” at the IMC SoCal Breakfast Meeting on Friday, November 8.

Savin has made well-received presentations on similar topics in years past, and plans to share new and additional thoughts, as well as practical advice, on how consultants can make arrangements for consulting contracts that work better for both them and their clients. He believes that these arrangements must address a number of the important elements, and provide an appropriate degree of flexibility that can work well for both parties as the consulting project progresses.

Savin is a specialist in ERP Software, IT project management, IT compliance and provides litigation support for failed IT projects.  He teaches these and other technical IT topics at UCLA, CSUN and UCR.

In 2017 the International Standards Organization established ISO 20700, Guidelines for management consultancy services. This is arguably the first international recognition of Management Consulting as a profession. Savin will review this ISO standard and its guidance with respect to “contracting,” in the language of the standard, or negotiating consulting assignments in regular parlance.

Often the foundations for future project failure can be found in the original agreements between the parties where the initial expectations were established and memorialized.  This presentation will discuss the initial steps to establish a consulting engagement based on over 30 years in the profession, ISO20700 guidance and lessons learned through various litigation support project engagements which focused on project failure root causes.

The IMC SoCal Breakfast meeting has been postponed one week from its normal first Friday of the month schedule. The meeting will be held at the Ayers Hotel – Matisse Restaurant, 14400 Hindry Ave., Hawthorne. The location is on the west side of the 405 Freeway at Rosecrans.

A brief Board meeting will be held after the meeting. Members and guests are welcome to attend.
