Ethical Decision Making: Why Should You Care?

Eugene J. Wallace, CMC, Excell Oregon & Family Business Advisers
Kenton R. Hill, CMC, KRH Consulting
M. Lynn Spruill, Family Business Advisers

What are Ethics and Why Should You Care?

What are ethics? Ethics are the standards of conduct that provide basic principles used to determine if an action is "right", "fair" or "just." Ethics are norms that an individual, community, group, or profession defines and institutionalizes to assist in making decisions.
So what? As a professional service provider or business leader, why should we care about ethics? Why should we care about ethical decision-making? This presentation provides a practical and candid inquiry into "Ethics and You." Using the IMC Code of Ethics*, we will discover together the heart of ethics and the way they impact our professional and business lives every day. Using real-time situations, we will interact to become more consciously aware of our own understanding and response to ethical decision-making.
Why should you care? Ethics have a tremendous influence on the quality of your work and the success of your efforts to serve your clients. This session will provide an opportunity for us to discover the heart of ethical decision-making and how ethics lead us to and through better business decisions.
*The IMC Code of Ethics is a standard used internationally by professional consultants to ensure they are providing consultation at the highest ethical level.
