"The Human Element®”:
Solid Ground for Client Relationships and Trust

Presentation Files

An Evening With Ethan Schutz

Imagine you had a solid, grounded understanding of your clients’ needs, wants and behaviors on several levels. Now imagine you could turn that awareness into greater trust and effective client relationships. How might that knowledge help you achieve more effective consulting outcomes and repeat business?

On January 10, 2013, IMC NCR begins its 2013 series of monthly chapter meetings and programs with "The Human Element®” ("THE”) to explore this intriguing topic. "THE” is designed to improve individual, team and organizational effectiveness though self-awareness and direct, honest communication. It offers us a practical and solidly grounded approach to building relationships and trust, with a rigorous framework and a set of practical tools we can use to analyze clients’ behaviors and interactions.

"THE” evolved from research for the U.S. Navy in the early 1950s by Will Schutz, PhD (our speaker’s father) to explore why some project teams were more effective than others. It has been widely used, expanded and validated over the 50+ years since. "THE” can help us understand the "logic of emotions” in all kinds of workplace relationships; this evening we’ll concentrate on consultants using it to understand and strengthen relationships with our clients.

Our speaker, Ethan Schutz, will actively engage us in more realistic thinking about human dynamics and conversations that will improve our business relationships and consulting value to clients. You’ll leave this program with:

  • A better understanding of human dynamics;
  • Insight about increasing client satisfaction and improving business relationships;
  • Tools to understand seemingly irrational behavior and reduce defensiveness.
