Many consultants are Sole Proprietors. When asked why they chose this legal status, quite a few of them admit that they lacked a good understanding of options and factors to consider when making the decision. Nevertheless, choosing the right legal structure is an essential decision for everyone in the profession. Legal aspects, tax implications, and other factors must be carefully considered and should be revisited whenever regulations change.

This month's workshop is a great opportunity to discuss the current risks and merits associated with various legal structures:

  • Sole proprietorship
  • Partnership
  • Limited Liability Company (LLC)
  • S- and C-Corporation

Ben Brown
brings a strong portfolio of experiences as a Forensic Accountant, Business Advisor & Professional Speaker to this workshop on what sort of legal structure would best serve your consultancy. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, Dallas Society of CPAs, Texas Society of CPAs. The Dallas Society of CPAs designated Ben the 1980 Outstanding Contributor to Continuing Professional Education, 1987 CPA of the Year, and 1998 Committee Chairperson of the Year for his work in Leadership Development. The Texas Society of CPAs awarded him a Presidential Citation for Service in 1990. He was named 1992 Member of the Year by the National Speakers Association – North Texas Chapter and served as President for 2002-2003.

Ben has been an active member of the Dallas Fort Worth Chapter of IMC and has served in many roles: Treasurer, Board of Directors, Programs Chair, Seminar Discussion Leader, and Bylaws Committee Chair.

He’ll add wit to the wisdom he’ll bring to this workshop.

CPA is the designation Certified Public Accountant authorized by law in the State of Texas, and licensed by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy.

CGMA is the designation Certified Global Management Accountant issued jointly by the Institute of Management Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
