Management in the Workplace: Focus on Young Adults with ADHD

With Barbara Mather, Ph.D.

At least 10% of those entering today’s workplace are young adults diagnosed with ADHD!

As consultants, it is helpful to be aware of organizational issues with which our clients are probably facing or trying to manage. At this informative workshop presentation, former IMC LAX-Area Breakfast coordinator and Board member Barb Mather will talk about recent research on young adults with ADHD in the workplace, and facilitate a hypothetical case study to practice your understanding of at least10% of those entering today’s workplace!

Case Study: Consulting Team Needed to Assist XYZ Company to Manage the Performance of Recently-Hired Employees

Breakfast attendees will cooperate on a simulated case study wherein "XYZ Company” has solicited the services of Dr. Mather to recommend best strategies in the management of new hires: in particular, young adults with ADHD. The case study will be presented at the breakfast immediately preceding the recent research overview.

Barb’s presentation will focus on her recent research with the first generation of young adults, growing up in the 1980s and 1990s with the official diagnosis of ADHD, who are relatively new to the workplace. She will discuss her research on the challenges faced by young adults with ADHD who work in a structured environment. She addresses the question: How are young adults with ADHD able to manage their attention, organization, structure, self-management, impulsivity, and social skills issues to adapt to their workplace environments?
