What Consultants Need to Know
About Consulting Agreement

With Matt Sumrow, Newport Beach Business Attorney

Consulting presents a minefield of uncertainty for both for consultants and clients. Our challenge is not only to secure consulting assignments, but also to get paid and avoid being named in lawsuits when the business turns sour. Just shaking hands with a new client and jumping into a new assignment without clear ground rules and safeguards may set you up for disappointment, or worse.

Join us at our October 10 IMC Orange County Breakfast Meeting as Matt Sumrow, Newport Beach Business Attorney, teaches us what we consultants need to know about legal issues that can arise during our work. Topics will include:

  • Alternative Compensation Structures for Consultants
  • Equity Ownership Interests and Stock Options
  • Performance Requirements and Deliverables
  • Intellectual Property Issues, Ownership and Licensing
  • Explicit and Implied Confidentiality Obligations
  • Non-Compete and Non-Solicit Obligations
  • Liability and Indemnification
  • Governing Law
  • Termination Clauses
  • Venue and Dispute Resolution
All are welcome, not just IMC members. This will not only be a great learning experience, but also an opportunity for you to network with your fellow consultants and other self-employed professionals in the Greater Orange County area. Think about legal issues that you have faced in your consulting practice and legal questions that you would like to have answered by an expert..
