Message from the Chair/CEO, Juan - Communicating our Consulting Value

Before becoming IMC USA’s Chair, one of my commitments was to visit every chapter. So far, I have been to five. Moreover, in July a personal trip to Russia gave me the opportunity to meet with four IMC members from that country.

In early October in San Diego at our conference we celebrated IMC USA’s 50thanniversary. In Milan a few weeks ago, I attended the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI) annual conference.

Many ideas were shared with me during my chapter visits. I also came back from Milan with many insights’ speakers and ICMCI members provided.

There is no question that IMC members offer great value to clients. But there was a feeling we could do a better job at communicating that value. Two comments captured this sentiment.

Michael Egan, an IMC USA Board member, in his San Diego presentation said, “There is value in promoting our value.” In Milan, outgoing ICMCI Chair, Sorin Caian, said, “We tend not to be so good in letting others know how good we are.”

Please let me know how IMC USA can help add value to your practice byclicking here.

So, as we go forward let me ask everyone to focus on communicating that value. We will all be that better off for it.

What attendees are saying:

Tris Coffin CMC® - Colorado Chapter: "I am so enthusiastic about the Chat Room experience. My recent teaming with Roberta Guise and Ed Tucker CMC®is what I describe as an "Integrated frontier" effect, or 1+1+1=5 or 7! They were both stimulating and offered guidance and reassurance about a large client I am dealing with. Thanks for leading this IMC USA event."

Roberta Guise - NorCal Chapter: "The Chat Room is a powerful use of technology. It allows consultants from across the country the chance to chat spontaneously. The 3 members of our Chat Room each left with valuable action steps to solve an individual challenge. The Chat Room is just a start! We all plan to cultivate our new trusting relationship moving forward."

Leverage Ethics for Professional Success

Surveys of consultants and clients confirm that ethics are the foundation of what it means to be a “trusted advisor.” You demonstrate your commitment to excellence and ethics in management consulting as an IMC member and/or CMC® by voluntarily adhering to a Code of Ethics, regularly strengthening your ability to address ethical situations and being bound to enforcement of the Code.

Prominently displaying a copy of the IMC USA Code of Ethics in each proposal affirms that commitment. It also gives you a powerful opening to discuss with prospects or clients what the Code means to you and how you bring additional value to them by your ability to enhance their own ethical culture and practices. Visit the IMC USA Ethics pagehere.

IMC USA'S Reason for Being: Spotlight on The Re-Brand Team

IMC USA’s Reason for Being (aka “RFB”) has formed several volunteer Sprint teams, including a team with the mission to re-brand IMC USA. The team’s mission was to re-cast not only our logo and marketing designs, but the entire tone and tenor of our voice and our very culture.

The Re-Brand Team assessed the current brand, hired a branding expert, involved stakeholders (leadership, members and non-members) and is now implementing the new brand on our web pages. Connect with them via their IMC USA or LinkedIn profiles to learn more. Not a part of an RFB Sprint team? Get involved and join us – learn morehere.

AARG! It’s Tax Planning Time

Many of us are receiving letters or emails from financial advisors reminding us that it coming to the close of another year. Many such mailings share one tax-saving strategy -- taking charitable deductions – give to a good cause andreduce your taxes.

There are many methods to reduce taxes, and many worthy charitable causes. Seriously consider your profession in taking advantage of tax deductions. IMC USA was fundamental in establishing a 501(C)3, IMC USA Foundation, for the purpose of improving “management consulting practices through research … and education.”
