The Consulting Ethics Situation

Your firm is one of the finalists for Milikon’s $80M project. Locking down that contract would be a huge relief as you’d have your staff time covered for the next thirty-six months. However, it’s not a done deal yet.

You know Milikon is also considering Legends Consulting. Ray Legends started that firm nearly fifty years ago and is brilliant. However, you’ve heard through the grapevine that Ray is considering retiring, but he hasn’t found the right successor yet. You’ve also heard there’s frustration with his current senior team because of Ray’s continued involvement in most projects. You know three of his lead consultants are looking for work elsewhere because they’ve reached out to you.

If the issues with Legends Consulting were to “slip” during your final interview with Milikon, it might tip the scales in your favor.

What do you do?

Refer to the IMC USA Code of Ethics. In the comments below, answer these questions. 1.) If you were this consultant – what would you do? 2.) What elements of the Code of Ethics might apply to this case?
