Assess your current consulting business: successes and gaps
- Quality of your current clients and types of projects?
- Quality of your prospective clients and potential projects?
- Financial Statement: revenue, expenses, salary, net profit?
- Quality of your referral sources?
- Quality of competitors for your prospects? Why (e.g. your/their competitive advantage)?
- Visibility to your target market LinkedIn, Facebook, X-formerly Twitter, conferences, publications, videos, podcasts)?
- What are the three most important/successful elements of your current business?
- What are the three most challenging/unsuccessful elements of your current business?
Assess current or emerging business issues for your clients in 2025

- Review the above diagram
- Define prospects and problems that you CAN SOLVE.
- Think like a prospect: define the solutions that prospects WILL BUY from an independent consultant…now and/or in the future.
- Do you need to seek new kinds of prospects that hire consultants?
- Do you need to seek new kinds of projects?
- Do you need to seek new referral sources?
- Do you need to re-evaluate the types of competitors for these prospects and projects?
- What changes will you make to your visibility to your target market (LI, FB, X, conferences, publications, videos, podcasts)?
- How can you leverage the 3 most important/successful elements of your current business?
- How can you improve your 3 most challenging/unsuccessful elements of your current business?
